SAIMM - Zimbabwe

On the 2^nd of December the SAIMM's Zimbabwean branch held an event at Zimplats' Selous Metallurgical Complex.

The event began with an underground visit to Hartley Steep Orebody test mining facility and was followed by a concentrator and smelter visit.

After lunch, four technical papers were presented, namely:

• Steep Platinum orebody Mining trials – by Zimplats
• Platinum concentrators, smelting and refining – by Zimplats
• Simplistic overview of the justification and threshold of having a refinery in the Zimbabwean Platinum Industry – by Zimplats
• The role of efficient utilization of the expert mining technical skills in the mining recovery as well as indigenisation – Chamber of Mines
