    Europe should stop exploiting Africa and invest in ways that benefit the continent more, including by sharing mineral wealth more equitably, Pope Francis said. "We must invest in Africa, but invest in an orderly way and create employment, not go there to exploit it," he told Reuters in a wide-ranging interview, while discussing the migration of Africans to Europe.
  • Copperbelt Energy of Zambia eyes $250m power investment
    Copperbelt Energy Corp, the Zambian electricity supplier with customers including Glencore’s copper mines, may invest as much as $250-million in solar projects and transmission lines in the neighboUring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), CEO Owen Silavwe has said. The amount includes two solar plants to generate 30 MW and 50 MW respectively, and the company is still determining their feasibility, he said on Tuesday in an interview on the sidelines of a conference in Le Morne, near the Mauritian capital of Port Louis. He estimates the total cost at between $80-million and $100-million.
  • Ten killed in Zambia copper mine dump collapse – police
    Ten people were killed and another ten injured after a dumping site for copper mining waste collapsed in the town of Kitwe in Zambia's Copperbelt province, police said on Wednesday. "The incident happened this morning and at least ten people have been confirmed dead," Copperbelt police chief Charity Katanga said by phone from Kitwe, 400 km (248 miles) north of the capital Lusaka.
