  • New Moz coal railway line takes step forward
    In a further step towards easing transport bottlenecks for coal mining companies operating in Mozambique’s inland Tete province, a Sino-Portuguese consortium has signed a contract with local company Thai Moçambique Logística to build a 500 km railway from the coal rich Moatize district to the coast at Macuse, in Zambézia province. This was announced in a communication to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission, dated June 13.
  • Sherritt rings TSX opening bell in celebration of 90 years in business
    Canadian diversified miner Sherritt International on Thusday rang the opening bell of the TSX in celebration of the company’s 90 years of operations and 21 years being listed on Canada’s largest stock exchange. Senior VP for human resources Karen Trenton had the honour of opening the market for trading, joined by TMX Group president for capital formation Ungad Chadda.
  • Implats general meeting to vote on new share issue
    Platinum mining and marketing company Impala Platinum (Implats) on Thursday announced details of an annual general meeting to approve the issuing of 175-million new shares. The Johannesburg Stock Exchange-listed company said shareholders would be convened on July 24 to vote on resolutions authorising:
