  • Chinese cobalt chemicals giant backs Nzuri’s DRC copper/cobalt mine
    The world’s largest cobalt chemical producer, Huayou Cobalt, has made a A$10-million strategic investment in Australia-listed Nzuri Copper to advance its copper and cobalt projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). China’s Huayou, which also has established operations in the DRC, will work closely with Nzuri to bring the Kalongwe copper/cobalt project into production.
  • Fed spells relief for gold traders worried over rate-hike pace
    Spot gold headed for the biggest gain in three weeks after Federal Reserve officials stuck with a projection for three interest-rate increases in the coming year, easing concerns that quickening economic growth would spur an even faster pace of monetary tightening. By a 7-2 vote, the Fed on Wednesday raised the benchmark lending rate by a quarter percentage point, its third hike this year. In a statement following a two-day meeting, the Federal Open Market Committee omitted prior language saying it expected the labor market would strengthen further.
  • Volt proceeds with $40m Tanzania bond issue
    Tanzania-focused flake graphite development company Volt Resources said on Thursday that it would proceed with the issue of $40-million structured debt funding to complete the Stage 1 development of its Bunyu graphite project. The company has engaged Exotix Capital to undertake a Tanzania bond issue to raise the required funding for the development of Stage 1, which is targeting production of 20 000 t/y of graphite products starting in late 2018 or early 2019.
