Refractories 2010

  • Date: 16 - 17 March 2010
  • Venue: Misty Hills , Conference Centre, Cradle Of Humankind, Gauteng
  • CPD: 2

South Africa is a major user of refractory materials since it has a strong pyrometallurgical industry (whereby commodities such as iron and steel, stainless steel, ferrochrome,  ferromanganese, silicomanganese, silicon, PGMs, titania and aluminium are produced), a petrochemical industry which is the largest in Africa, a cement industry which supplies its civil engineering and building sectors, as well as glass smelting and recycling operations, and a foundry industry.

Knowledge on refractory materials is therefore of great importance to the South African economy

The SAIMM and Conference Organising Committee would like to thank the following sponsors for their invaluable contribution:

The main objective of Refractories 2010 is to advance the understanding of the production, installation and use of refractory materials in Southern Africa through the exchange of knowledge between all the relevant roles players in the field, i.e. raw material suppliers, refractory producers, installers, users and researchers.

Presentations will have a technical focus, in which the latest challenges, developments and trends will be discussed, and information as well as experiences shared.

This forum will also be used to discuss the interdependence of the different role players, and to create the  opportunity for networking in the field

  • Engineers, technologists and scientists that work in the refractories and pyrometallurgical industries
  • Managers
  • R & D and Academic personnel
  • Students
