The Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy has been organising and presenting an annual Student Colloquium since 2002 to give final year mining and metallurgical students an opportunity to present their final year projects to a mining and metallurgical audience.

This colloquium serves to introduce the best students to the mining industry at the threshold of their careers, and to expose them to communicating
their work to a professional audience. This year, students from the mining and metallurgical departments of the Universities of the Witwatersrand,
Pretoria, and Johannesburg, together with metallurgical students from the Tshwane and Vaal Universities of Technology and the North-West will
present their final projects.

The metallurgical departments of the Universities of Cape Town, Stellenbosch and the Western Cape have also been invited to send contributions to
the colloquium. Since 2002, the number of industry delegates has been disappointing, with the colloquia predominantly being attended by university staff,
students, and a few SAIMM members.

This year, the SAIMM wishes to reach further into the mining industry, and to persuade more mining and metallurgical professionals to attend and see
the calibre of young persons about to embark on their careers in industry.

This has become more important, especially since the demand for mining engineers and metallurgists has risen so dramatically in recent years.

The Colloquium introduces the best students to the mining industry at the threshold of their career and to expose them to communicate their work to a
professional audience.

Currently eighteen presentations (from both the mining and metallurgical disciplines) are planned for the day, with luncheon and a cocktail party afterwards.

We need your companyʼs participation to support our Mining and Metallurgy Future!
