The University of the Witwatersrand, School of Mining Engineering has a Mine Design Laboratory with 100 computers. The SAIMMʼs Mine Planning Forum has clearly highlighted the limitations in currently available mine planning skills.

Using a backdrop of a generic description of the mine planning process, provide a platform for the mine planning fraternity to explore best practices and share experiences. This will be focused on creating a learning experience to increase planning competencies.

This will be supplemented by presentations on best practice and displays of state of the art mine planning tools.
