The technical visits will take place in the Gauteng region. Delegates may choose one of the following tours:
• AngloGold Ashantiʼs Tautona and Mponeng goldmine: Deepest goldmine on earth showing the integration of backfill with mining to mitigate rockburst damage
or
• Gold Fieldsʼ South Deep Gold Mine: Extensive surface backfill preparation plant operations with quality control laboratory and an innovative rock mechanics method to destress the multiple wide gold bearing reefs by the early mining of a single narrow tabular reef
or
• Northam—underground visit at the deepest platinum mine in the world
All delegates will return to Cape Town after the tour unless otherwise arranged

This event needs to be booked separately. These lectures are aimed at minefill practitioners who want to get an update on best practices for mine backfill technology. The style is interactive to maximise the benefits for the attendees.
Handouts will contain the Powerpoint presentations of the presenters, which include fundamental background information, references to related literature and a summary of the key points to be remembered in practice in each field.
