What contribution do you see yourself making to the Young Professionals Council and the SAIMM? :

I will use the challenges I had in my career to advise the YPC SAIMM on programmes and workshops required to help young professionals in the Mining sector to grow and develop in their fields and to become experts.

Interactions/activities that you currently participate in within the SAIMM (if applicable):

I have joined the YPC Career Guidance and Enterprise working groups to assist them with their current activities. I am participating in exploring the SAIMM/WIMSA partnership where we are planning a workshop to address the leadership skills and interpersonal skills of SAIMM and WIMSA members. I am also helping to organise Plant/Mine visits for young people.

Brief career history:

I joined Mintek in 2009 after completing a Masters in Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Pretoria. I held various positions from Engineer in Training to Senior Engineer. My experience involved comminution, flotation, gravity separation, dense medium separation and electrostatic separation. I have mainly been involved in the flowsheet development and optimization of various process flowsheet for the recovery of PGMs, base metals, chrome, iron ores, graphite for scoping, prefeasibility and feasibility projects.
