What contribution do you see yourself making to the SAIMM and Council? :
I am passionate about the mining industry and have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work in production, projects and advising both government and the private sector. My work as a Valuator has also given me the opportunity to understand some of the value drivers and the context of the industry. I believe this experience can benefit the SAIMM as we look to positively impact the industry.

Brief career history:
My career began as a learner official in Anglo Coal in 1994. I then transferred to the University of Stellenbosch and returned to Anglo Coal post-graduation. I worked in production before moving to a projects company for five years where I also started studying economics, completing an M.Com in 2006. Over the past sixteen years my focus has been more on valuation, business development and strategy with the past 13 years at SRK as a Competent Valuator. I am currently the managing director of SRK South Africa.

Executive – Group Metallurgy at Implats

What contribution do you see yourself making to the SAIMM and Council? :
Proactive participation in sub committees and membership/partnership improvements ensuring the survival of SAIMM through the lean years.

Currently on the Tailings committee and part of the tailings conference work group.

B.Eng (metallurgy) degree

Brief career history:
Obtained a Metallurgical Engineering degree with distinction in 1996. Commenced professional career at Gencor – worked across value chain in gold, precious metals and ferrometals. Eventually, found my home at Implats and worked as a metallurgical engineer across operations and value chain for the previous 28 years, involved in operational management, project delivery and strategic growth. Appointed since 2020 as Executive: Group Metallurgy at Implats; leading and advising in support of achieving metallurgical excellence across the Implats Group.

Executive: Projects and Growth

What contribution do you see yourself making to the SAIMM and Council? :
I see myself playing an active role in expanding the reach and relevance of the SAIMM, particularly in the North-West Province. I aim to contribute by growing interest and membership in this region, ensuring that professionals and students alike are aware of the value the Institute offers.
Additionally, I would like to support the organization of conferences, seminars, and learning events that are accessible, practical, and aligned with the evolving needs of our industry. Improving participation and attendance will be a priority, by making these events more inclusive and representative of the challenges and innovations in mining and metallurgy.
I also intend to actively encourage the sharing of industry learnings and practical experiences, making sure that knowledge is distributed widely, beyond just technical circles.
Lastly, I believe I can assist in attracting sponsorship and broader industry support for SAIMM activities, helping to strengthen its sustainability and impact.

An ex-member of council currently a Fellow member, I assist most people to take up membership give reference esp. in my organisation, I interact and share my experience with the institution with
newly elected members of the NW Region council.

Brief career history:
I have over 30 years of experience in the mining industry, spanning across the gold, diamond, and PGM sectors. Throughout my career, I have been involved in various mining projects both in South Africa and across the SADC region, including Zambia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Botswana, and Zimbabwe.
Currently, I am responsible for overseeing all capital projects for Impala Platinum in the Rustenburg area.

What contribution do you see yourself making to the SAIMM and Council? :

• Offering my time and expertise by actively participating in SAIMM committees or working groups. Willing to take on leadership roles and offering a young professional’s perspective to help shape the strategic direction of the organisation and contribute to decision-making processes.
• Participating in discussions, providing input on industry-related topics, and offering guidance based on practical experiences.
• Contributing to the development of professionals in the mining and minerals industry. This may include mentoring early-career professionals, offering guidance on career paths, and organising workshops or training programs.

Brief career history:
After completing my undergraduate degree, I spent five years as a Metallurgical Engineer responsible for the core production processes as well as improvement strategies, systems and initiatives for one of the country’s biggest gold producers, AngloGold Ashanti. I went on to complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Management before registering for an MBA full-time in 2017. My current engagement is as a Director at Vuuma Collaborations; leading a team that focuses on applying systems thinking methodology to maximise the Operational Systems Capability of business operations (mostly in the mining and minerals industry)
