What contribution do you see yourself making to the SAIMM and Council? :
I plan to bring my practical metallurgical experience in Anglo, coupled with my design, project management and business improvement experience from Enprotec and finally the corporate large mining company experience, R&D and people development skills from Implats to serve the SAIMM council. With Implats to be a major company sponsor of SAIMM, I will also be the direct contact between Implats and SAIMM to ensure industry relevant projects, R&D and relevant topics/areas of development.

Interactions/activities that you currently participate in within the SAIMM (if applicable):
In the 2023/2024 council period, I was involved with the Technical Program committee and engaged with several executives to investigate what companies want from SAIMM and how to develop SAIMM’s strategy to gain company membership and serve the industry technically through the SAIMM TP. I also encouraged SAIMM membership within Implats and started getting Impala graduates involved in SAIMM and YPC.

Brigadier Stokes Memorial Award

In 1980 the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy instituted a prestigious award to commemorate Brigadier Stokes for his outstanding and unique contribution to the South African Mining Industry over a period of many years. This award consists of a Platinum medal. The award is made to an individual for the very highest achievement in the South African mining and metallurgical industry, and is not necessarily based on technical considerations.
