What contribution do you see yourself making to the SAIMM and Council?
I shall continue to contribute to the ESG-S sub-committee particularly in co-leading the Governance workstream and the social aspects that relate to responsible and sustainable mining for the benefit of SAIMM members in their specialist and leadership roles across southern Africa. I shall also continue to foster relationships with partners such as SACAC in bringing collaborative effort in control and automation in Mining and Metallurgy of major commodities in Southern Africa for the benefit of SAIMM members.

• Member of SAIMM since 2011 and participating in SAIMM events and conferences
• Guest Speaker for the Young Professionals Council, Career and Leadership Conference, 2018.
• SAIMM Council member 2021-2024, contributing to the ESG-S sub-committee and partnership with SACAC

• Master of Engineering, Engineering Management, University of Pretoria (2017)
• Bachelor of Engineering Honours in Control Engineering, University of Pretoria (2006)
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Chemical Engineering, University of Cape Town (1999)

Brief career history:
I hold the role of Principal Operating Model in Anglo American Technical and have 21 years’ experience in Anglo American and its Businesses in Southern Africa, Australia and South America.
I started my career in the Mining industry as a Metallurgist in 2000 at Anglogold Ashanti and progressed to join Sasol Synfuels in 2001. In 2003, I joined Anglo American Technical as a Senior Engineer in Process Control where I designed and implemented advanced process solutions for Platinum, Coal, Copper, Lead and Zinc process plants and later progressed to Business Improvement as a Business Improvement Manager.

In my current role, I lead Assurance and Governance of the Operating Model and large-scale improvement projects from Resource to Mining and Processing with focus on value stream optimization and sustainability. I held the role of Secretary of the Anglo Corporate Services South Africa Employment Equity Forum (2017 – 2021). I was an Executive Committee Member of the South African Council of Automation and Control (2008 – 2010).

Brigadier Stokes Memorial Award

In 1980 the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy instituted a prestigious award to commemorate Brigadier Stokes for his outstanding and unique contribution to the South African Mining Industry over a period of many years. This award consists of a Platinum medal. The award is made to an individual for the very highest achievement in the South African mining and metallurgical industry, and is not necessarily based on technical considerations.
