What contribution do you see yourself making to the SAIMM and Council? :

I have a strong environmental consulting background and thorough knowledge of the mining industry. My experience includes environmental, water and waste management, auditing and due diligences as well as strategic environmental advisory work, in the mining sector. I have a thorough understanding of South African environmental, water and waste legislation and have experience in engagement with stakeholders and regulators and have a keen interest in the socio-economic aspects associated with mining. A more recent development with the advent of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) is the implementation of the ESG aspects of the GISTM.
I believe my skills, knowledge and experience will be of benefit in providing input and support to SAIMM activities and initiatives.

Interactions/activities that you currently participate in within the SAIMM (if applicable):

I was co-opted as a member of the Council for the period between March 2025-July 2025 and attended the Council meetings in March and May 2025. I also attended the SAIMM ESG Conference at the end of 2024. I have shown interested in joining the Tailings Committee.

Brief career history:
I have 24 years of experience in environmental consulting, primarily within the mining sector. My career began in 2001 at SRK Consulting. Between 2004 and 2006, I worked for another environmental consultancy, followed by a brief period of self-employment in 2007. Later that year, I rejoined SRK Consulting and have been part of the company ever since.

 

Brigadier Stokes Memorial Award

In 1980 the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy instituted a prestigious award to commemorate Brigadier Stokes for his outstanding and unique contribution to the South African Mining Industry over a period of many years. This award consists of a Platinum medal. The award is made to an individual for the very highest achievement in the South African mining and metallurgical industry, and is not necessarily based on technical considerations.
