• More work needed to further improve railway safety, regular says
  The Railway Safety Regulator's (RSR's) latest data shows a 9.9% year-on-year decrease in total railway occurrences, including operational occurrences and security-related incidents, to 8 288 in 2025/26, from 9 200 in 2024/25. This represents the third consecutive year of improvement and the lowest number of occurrences recorded in five years.
• Steenkampskraal mine opens Phase 1 of monazite concentrate plant
  Mineral and Petroleum Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe has officially opened the Phase 1 concentrate plant at the Steenkampskraal Monazite Mine (SMM), in the Western Cape, in the presence of Electricity and Energy Minister Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa and Mineral and Petroleum Resources Deputy Minister Phumzile Mgcina.  The plant opening marks the start of commercial mineral processing.

  South Africa's mining industry, which has developed infrastructure to support mines and their surrounding communities, is working with government to ensure the civil service is reformed into a capable, competent and ethical part of society. The national deficiencies dealt with through the partnership between business and government, including electricity, transport and logistics failures, can be replicated at a local scale to address the deficiencies in services in local municipalities, such as in the City of Johannesburg.
