Introduction to
 THE SAMREC AND SAMVAL CODES ONLINE COURSE


Series 2: Knowledge sharing workshop

The object of the Lecture is to supply the participants with the basics of the SAMREC and SAMVAL Codes. The purpose of the 2.5-hour lecture is to supply young professionals with the opportunity to broaden their mining knowledge of general mining issues.

The lecture intends to provide the professional with a better understanding and appreciation of the South African reporting codes.
Sufficient detail will also enable the mining engineer to benefit from this lecture as real issue are raised during the course. The lecture will be broken into four - 30 minute sessions structured to comprise of a basic introduction of the Codes and key definitions and principles.

The second and third session will introduce the SAMREC and SAMVAL Codes and their application in Public Reporting. The final session will provide a number of case studies thereby enabling participants to fully benefit from the sessions.


 

ABOUT YOUR PRESENTER

The 2.5-hour lecture will be presented by Professor Steven Rupprecht — Senior Lecturer from the University of Johannesburg who has been involved with the SAMREC Working Group since 2010, intimately involved with the drafting
of the 2016 SAMREC Code and is the vice chairman of the SAMREC Working Group. Professor Rupprecht has over 30 years experience in the mining industry, and has been involved in writing and reviewing competent person reports (CPRs) (SAMREC and SAMVAL) since 2003.

Professor Rupprecht commenced his career in 1986 with Gold Fields of South Africa where he gained underground production mining experience working at Venterspost Gold Mine, East and West Driefontein Gold Mines, and Leeudoorn Gold Mine. In 1997 Steven was moved to Head Office as Group Mining Engineer and Senior Mining Engineer Coal. In 1999 He joined CSIR Mining Technology as Research Area Manager and worked extensively on the Deepmine and Futuremine Research Programmes. In 2003 Steven joined RSG Global as a Principal Mining Engineer until 2007 when joined Keaton Energy as a Technical Director, a position he held until 2009.
In 2010 joined the University of Johannesburg as Senior Lecture and is currently an Associate Professor. Professor Rupprecht is a Fellow of the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM), a member of the SAIMM Council, member of the SAIMM Technical Programme Committee, DIMI Task Team, YPC Committee as a council advisor, and Chairperson of the SAMCODES Standards Committee (SSC).
