What contribution do you see yourself making to the Young Professionals Council and the SAIMM?:
I see myself brining a young professional’s perspective to the Council which would intern benefit the broader SAIMM and young members. I think it is important to ensure that interest of young professional are well articulated in the institutes strategy and I believe being part of the council would assist with this. With the changes in the minerals sector and the impact of technology, I see myself assisting the SAIMM with the transition by sharing some of the emerging trends that will have an impact of the future of the Institute.
Interaction/activities that you currently participate in within the SAIMM (if applicable):
- I previously served and continue to serve on various SAIMM conference committees including the chairing of some of the flagship conference such as the YPC conference and Student colloquium.
- Btech-Mining Engineering, awaiting final research outcomes for a Master of Science in engineering
Brief career history:
Katlego Letsoalo is a trained mining engineer with exposure to narrow tabular and board & pillar operations in South Africa. he spent the last 4 years of his career actively involved in various R&D initiatives within the mining industry, this includes the execution of the outcomes of the Mining Phakisa and the Modernisation initiative by the Chamber of Mines. he is currently employed as a Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist at the Minerals Council South Africa focusing on occupational health and safety in mining.
