Brief career history:
Sihe has proficiency in the narrow reef mining especially underground operations using various mining methods. He has been involved in projects in conventional and mechanised platinum operations. He is currently a lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand (School of Mining Engineering) and his interest is in mine financial valuation and, mine planning and mine optimisation under uncertainty. He is also a PhD student at Wits where his research study is focused on stope layout optimisation for underground mines.

What are your views on the 4th industrial revolution?
I strongly believe that integration of the 4th industrial revolution in mining (Mining 4.0) will form part of the solution in reviving the mining industry. This will improve quality of mining and create new entrepreneurship and employment opportunities in mining related sectors. Especially in sectors that will provide inputs into mining.

If you were a precious metal what would you be and why?
Platinum: it is harder than gold and has appearance of silver.

How do you think industry bodies such as the SAIMM can better equip young professionals such as yourself?
Continue providing platforms for them to develop and express their creativity.

How do you see young professionals making a significant change in the industry?
Young professionals will be at the forefront of the mining 4.0

What gets you up in the morning?
The need to contribute in this world, mainly in the mining space.
