What are your views on the 4th industrial revolution?
The 4th industry revolution should be embraced. It will allow for significant improvement in the way we operate and monitor all aspects of the Mining and Metallurgy fields. It is however important to understand the potential for increasing the size of the gap between the larger and smaller companies in the different sectors, as those with access to more capital will be able to implement this “revolution” faster and as such see the benefits sooner.

If you were a precious metal what would you be and why?
Gold – A quick polish and I will be shiny and as good as brand new. This is an analogy for making mistakes and bouncing back quickly and better than ever.

How do you think industry bodies such as the SAIMM can better equip young professionals such as yourself?
Sharing knowledge and information is vital to being a good young professional. SAIMM is in a place to share technical advancements and innovations but also best practice when it comes to fundamentals within the different operating environments.

How do you see young professionals making a significant change in the industry?
Young professionals really embrace innovation. Innovation is one of the areas that will enable the Mining and Metallurgy fields to make step changes in safety, operating performance and costs. This innovation combined with the wealth of knowledge in the field already, could provide fantastic returns.

What gets you up in the morning?
Knowing that by making a difference at work today I am looking after my family forever. I can do my best at work and those around me will benefit but also my family and home.
