What contribution do you see yourself making to the Young Professionals Council and the SAIMM?:
- Based on the experience accumulated at the time I was working in the mining industry, I believe that I will add value in achieving the sole mandate of the YPC
- I have served as a member of the YPC and I am quite aware of the opportunities and challenges related to the council
- I am a serving as a vice-chairperson and also the 2-i-c of the Education Working Group
- I am a director of a non-profit organisation (Nido Calido NPC) which mainly deals with issues around career guidance, promotion of mathematics and science in high schools. Some of the activities of this organisation are in line with the mandate of the YPC
- I will be glad to be part of the team that will ensure the implementation of the YPC strategic plan.

Brief career history:
I have worked at Anglo American Platinum from 2010 to 2013. During this period I obtained blasting (rock breaker) and shift supervisor certificates. I undertook two (2) projects: “A comparative study of ANFEX and Watergel blasting agents” and “Investigative study of introduction timber-less stopes at Tumela Mine.”
In 2013, I joined the School of Mining Engineering at Wits as an Associate Lecturer where I am responsible for lecturing and furthering my studies. I have completed my masters degree where I was conducting a research in mine financial valuation focusing on determining an asset pricing model that better explains the differences in discount rates for mining companies. I have currently busy with my PhD focusing on mine planning optimisation under uncertainty.
