Microstructure and Texture of Metal Alloys Conference
15-17 September 2015
Gauteng

It is a well-known fact that both the physical and mechanical properties of metals and their alloys are, to the greater extent, dependent on the preferred orientation of the subgrain and grain structure which is called crystallographic texture. For example, failures and poor surface quality in deep drawn metal products are very common when texture is not optimized. Susceptibility of metal alloys to corrosion and oxidation can also be dependent on grain size as well as type, and orientation of the grain boundaries present in the metal. It is therefore imperative for process/production engineers and researchers to understand the evolution of microstructure and texture in metal alloys, with regard to plant process parameters, fabrication, heat treatment and service environment in order to control performance.

Knowing that world-wide there are a limited number of physical metallurgists who are knowledgeable in macro- and micro-texture characterisation in metals, this conference will provide a forum in which overseas experts in this field can share their knowledge with the delegates through workshop and conference presentations.
