This conference is designed to help bring South African mines to ʻZero Harmʼ.

All parties involved in health and safety on mines participate in an endeavour to bring about meaningful change.

Objectives

Since 2010 health and safety have been included in the Mining Charter.
The Mining Charter is the transformation agenda of the mining sector and is a key priority of all stakeholders. The conference will act as a platform of learning and be
an opportunity to share solutions to the many challenges resulting from the Charter including:

- Implementation of the Culture Transformation Framework covering leadership, accident investigation systems, production bonuses, leading practice adoption systems and diversity management.
- Training of health and safety representatives using innovative techniques
- The investigation and adoption of leading practices from the MOSH Learning Hub including netting with bolting, hearing protection device selection and training tools, footwall and sidewall treatment and proximity detection systems.
- The investigation and adoption of research from the Mine Health and Safety Council
- The management and reporting on health issues.
- Programmes to achieve alignment with national guidelines on HIV-AIDS and TB

Call for papers

The conference is a combined effort between the SAIMM, AMMSA and SACMA. With valued input from the DMR, Chamber of Mines, NUM, Solidarity and UASA The Union and papers are invited for the Conference.

Prospective authors are invited to submit titles and abstracts of their papers, in English. The abstracts should be no longer than 500 words and should be submitted to:
