The Minerals Council South Africa is the premier body representing employers in the mining sector. It represents 90% of all mining production by value. The Junior and Emerging Miners Desk (JEMD), a programme in the Minerals Council, represents 35 junior and mid-tier producers as well as exploration/development companies. In addition, the JEMD works closely with mining associations, particularly the South African Diamond Producers Organization (SADPO), the Clay Brick Association and ASPASA. The JEMD supports its members with a comprehensive programme of work that includes policy lobbying, stakeholder engagement, hosting webinars, information dissemination, research, and mentorship. In 2019, the JEMD commissioned an independent researcher, Dr Manie Kriel, to undertake a major study into the opportunities and challenges facing South Africa’s junior sector. In late 2025, Dr Kriel was again engaged to review the sector in the current economic climate. This will form the core of the Webinar and will be supported by an economic overview of the South African mining industry as a whole, together with a recent research project into finance options for Junior Mining companies.
Confirmed speakers are:
- Dr Manie Kriel – CEO, VBKOM
- Bongani Motsa – Head Economics, Minerals Council South Africa
- Francois van Rensburg – recent MBA graduate, Millpark Business School
