BACKGROUND

SAIMM Webinar

Decarbonisation – an overview of the practical steps being taken in the mining industry.
Date: 14 May 2025 | Time: 12:00-13:00 | Zoom Webinar

The mining industry has traditionally been a conservative industry. However, in 2021, recognizing that mining is an energy intensive business, the ICMM and its members, representing roughly one-third of the global mining and metals industry, committed to undertake one of the most ambitious programmes of reform ever attempted: to achieve net zero scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2050 or sooner. A few years later, the majority of the mining companies had also set targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030. In this webinar, David will give an overview of what companies are doing globally to achieve these targets, talk about how setting these targets are also helping to reduce operating costs and to comment on how companies are evaluating initiatives.
