Notice to SAIMM Members: Consultation on the DMRE National Mine Closure Strategy

In its latest strategy sessions, the Institutes’ Office Bearers and the Council took a decision to become more involved in influencing policy and economic direction in Southern Africa’s mining sector. In its initial foray into assisting government and the mining industry’s regulators, the SAIMM has offered to provide support for the DMRE’s evolving National Mine Closure strategy. The Chairperson of the SAIMM ESGS Committee, Prof Michael Solomon, has for the last four years served as the Senior Advisor to and Coordinator of the strategy. In addition to this, the Institute is providing the digital platform for a series of six constituency-based discussions on the strategy in its current form.

The Schedule for the Consultations with the DMRE on the 3rd phase of the National Mine Closure Strategy as well as the Derelict and Ownerless Mine Strategy is presented here and SAIMM members are invited to participate in these discussions and consultations.
