In today’s increasingly interconnected world, the full potential of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) transformation can only be realized when all three pillars evolve systemically and in unison. However, a growing imbalance exists — while ‘E’ (Environmental) and ‘G’ (Governance) dimensions are progressing rapidly, the ‘S’ (Social) component lags behind in comparison. This disparity risks undermining efforts toward truly sustainable development, particularly in the minerals industry, where the trust deficit remains a persistent challenge.
To address this, a novel integrated framework introduces the concept of the Holistic Healthy Human (HHH) an innovative approach that repositions the individual at the centre of systemic ESG transformation through the conduit of the social enterprise. Initially introduced in late 2023 through a Mail & Guardian publication, this concept is later rooted in a 2024 research study involving 10 C-suite executives from the minerals sector, and formally published in the September 2025 edition of the SAIMM Journal. The novel integrated HHH framework offers a fresh lens for driving transformation from within, and across, organisations.

This publication, which sparked significant cross-sector interest and positive feedback, led her to spearhead pioneering research, carried out in collaboration with leaders in sustainability and the minerals sector—exploring the same concept of the ‘Holistic Healthy Human’ within the context of ESG and sustainability and with a special lens on the minerals industry.
Varsha holds a Masters degree in Organisational Psychology from the University of Cape Town. Her other qualifications include an honours degree in Psychology from Rhodes University (Cum Laude) and a Bachelors degree in Psychology and Applied Language Studies from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal (Cum Laude). During her studies, Varsha was also exposed to Eco-psychology (interfacing ecology and psychology). Apart from being awarded numerous national scholarships and runner up to international scholarships throughout her career, Varsha has authored a number of thought leadership articles and presented at various conferences.
