Finding the Pain Points in a Mining Production System: Load and Haul

Synopsis
Like all production systems, mining involves a series of integrated operations made up of a significant number of moving parts. Therefore business performance optimisation should ideally be viewed across the whole value chain, rather than individual segments. However, the sheer number of moving parts makes this extremely complex and challenging to manage. Each operation throughout the mine value chain (e.g. Drill and Blast, Load and Haul etc.) has a significant number of sub-operations. With most mines having integrated and interconnected mining systems, experiencing issues within one of these areas can disrupt the whole mining process – damaging your productivity and cost/ tonne output.

For example, in Load and Haul alone there are many potential pain points including; Fragmentation of the blasted material, Payload variability and below target, Cycle time, Operator performance, Haul road condition, Equipment availability and reliability and Tyre management. Each, if not managed properly, can impact the variability across your entire mining production system and operations. However identifying these pain points early and knowing where to look isn’t easy, and so we’d like to share how Decoda – a leading mine optimisation solution, is able to achieve this through their processes and approach”
