Lack of visibility of critical business data across sales, logistics, transportation, production and commercial operations as well as other business functions can substantially impact the financial results of any business, and this is especially true among mining companies. Unplanned demurrages charges, contractual breaches, inaccurate and inefficient invoicing practices, are just a few of many drawbacks the industry face on a daily basis.
The increasing pressure from regulatory and compliance codes to ensure quality and timely product delivery, demands process standardization and consistency. Often, the over-use of spreadsheets to overcome those challenges produces an even more chaotic situation, where even simple information about what was mined vs what was sold or forecasted is a difficult task.
Challenges like those can be overcame through a rigorous and well-defined framework leveraged by a database system fully integrated with existing process and/or other systems like, financial and ERP, production e.g. fleet management, ESCADA, LIMS etc.
This presentation will discuss in general terms this approach, its deployment and benefits and more specifically, showcase its application on an operating Bauxite mine in West Africa.
Bruno has been working at Datamine Africa as a mining system consultant since 2008.
He has participated in projects as mining engineer and project manager throughout Africa, visiting clients across the continent, getting exposed to different commodities and environments covering gold, platinum, diamonds, uranium, zinc, nickel, chrome, coal, iron ore and copper in open pit and underground operations.
Over his career Bruno has dedicated most of his efforts to open pit projects from short term mine planning to LOM optimizations including conceptual studies, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies. He delivered projects to major open pit operations such as Jwaneng, Konkola Copper Mines, Geita Gold Mine and Nkomati Nickel.
Bruno was appointed Team Lead Mining Engineer in 2014 and assigned to manage the engineering consultancy department under technical services at Datamine. In 2019 Bruno took on a new challenge as Business Lead, responsible to coordinate the integration of recently acquired technologies to Datamine's current business.
Those technologies cover supply chain/inventory management (MineMarket), metal accounting (Production Accounting) and laboratory information management system (CCLAS LIMS).
