Resources | Hydrometallurgical Processing of Cobalt Short Course_10102023.pdf |
The worldwide focus on energy minerals and the ongoing development of the green energy sector continues to drive the market for cobalt. Almost half the world’s cobalt is contained in the African Copper Belt, where it is associated with copper. This differs from deposits in the rest of the world, where it is often associated with nickel.
Hydrometallugy plays a major role in cobalt recovery, including leaching, precipitation, solvent extraction and ion exchange. Increasingly complex flowsheets are require to improve efficiencies, decrease operating costs and purify the product.
These topics form the basis of a one-day short course, which was first run in 2018. It has since been revised and updated, and was presented again at the Copper Cobalt Africa conference in June 2023. Due to popularity it will be run again as an online course. Each topic is presented by a world-renowned expert in the field, and the course will be accredited by the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) for one Continuing Professional Development (CPD) point.
