What contribution do you see yourself making to the SAIMM and Council?:

I see myself contributing to advancing the SAIMM’s ESGS priorities, with a particular focus on the Social and Governance pillars, drawing on my experience in community engagement and regulatory matters. I aim to support practical programmes that strengthen social licence to operate, governance standards, and stakeholder alignment.

I would also contribute to thought leadership and collaboration across the Institute, helping bridge industry, communities, and regulators. Additionally, I am keen to support the Membership Committee in enhancing member value and inclusivity, and to contribute to PAPAC by shaping relevant, high-quality technical content aligned with emerging industry challenges, particularly in ESGS.

I currently serve as a member on SAIMM Council, Membership Committee, ESGS Committee and PAPAC.

Qualifications:

Master of Business Administration, Master of Science (MSc) in Engineering (Minerals Economics)

Brief career history:

I am a mining engineer with experience spanning operations, industry leadership, regulatory engagement, and market analysis. I began my career across several South African mining operations, building a strong technical foundation. I later joined the Minerals Council South Africa as an M&E Specialist, where I contributed to shaping industry safety practices. My role included active participation in MOSAC and Mine Health and Safety Council structures focused on regulatory reform and emerging safety risks. During this time, I also published several peer-reviewed journal articles on mining safety.

I subsequently served as Regulatory Engagement Specialist at Anglo American Platinum, where I supported the company’s regulatory licence to operate, including permitting strategy and engagement across multiple operations. I currently serve as Macro and Commodity Outlook Manager at Valterra Platinum, where I provide strategic insights on global PGM markets to support business decision-making.

Brigadier Stokes Memorial Award

In 1980 the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy instituted a prestigious award to commemorate Brigadier Stokes for his outstanding and unique contribution to the South African Mining Industry over a period of many years. This award consists of a Platinum medal. The award is made to an individual for the very highest achievement in the South African mining and metallurgical industry, and is not necessarily based on technical considerations.
