What contribution do you see yourself making to the SAIMM and Council?:

I see myself contributing to the elevation of the SAIMM priorities around ESGS with a significant focus on Social and Governance related programmes. This mainly arises from my extensive involvement with community and regulatory issues over recent times.

I currently serve as a member on SAIMM Council, Membership Committee and ESGS Committee.

Master of Business Administration, Master of Science (MSc) in Engineering (Minerals Economics)

Brief career history:

Katlego is qualified mining engineer with experience gained at various South African mining operations. He previously worked as a M&E Specialist in the Minerals Council of South Africa supporting the mining industry on safety related matters. This included serving on the MOSAC (Mining Occupational Safety Advisory Committee) and various structures within the Mine Health and Safety Council tasked with reviewing MHSA and emerging safety trends. During this period, Katlego published a number of peer reviewed safety related journal articles. Katlego is currently employed as a Regulatory Engagement Specialist at Anglo American Platinum (AAP) supporting the company with its regulatory license to operate which includes the acquisition and retention of various permits across the groups mining sites.

He holds a Master of Science in Engineering (Mineral Economics) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Witwatersrand.

Brigadier Stokes Memorial Award

In 1980 the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy instituted a prestigious award to commemorate Brigadier Stokes for his outstanding and unique contribution to the South African Mining Industry over a period of many years. This award consists of a Platinum medal. The award is made to an individual for the very highest achievement in the South African mining and metallurgical industry, and is not necessarily based on technical considerations.
