What contribution do you see yourself making to the Young Professionals Council and the SAIMM?:

With my expertise in the industry, I understand what it takes for individuals to succeed within the industry as well as the need for continual growth in terms of expertise held and knowledge shared by young professionals. I plan to contribute to this by being part of the platform and providing significant career guidance for alternative careers that fit the future of mining.

With my project management experience and links to both industry and academia, I can work to encourage and facilitate mentorship and project work between the two.

Interaction/activities that you currently participate in within the SAIMM (if applicable):

I partake in SAIMM trainings (Drill and Blast Training 2022) as well as having presented papers at conferences and other SAIMM events whenever possible.

Brief career history:

Before graduation in 2017, I worked as an Engineering Geologist but due to market conditions the job didn’t materialise. I then started off as an ore-spotter at B2Gold in 2017, moving to Skorpion Zinc Mine as a Geological Supervisor in 2018. While at Skorpion I was given the opportunity to join the geotechnical department and start my geotechnical journey.

In the beginning of 2020, I then moved to Rossing Uranium Ltd where I was working on various geotechnical and geometallurgical projects. This exposed me to the confluence of managing the data process throughout the mining value chain and using the data to improve business flow. After two years I joined Rosh Pinah Zinc Mine at the end of 2021, where I now work as a Geotechnical Engineer.
