As a dedicated student member of SAIMM, I have actively engaged with the organization’s digital resources, including its online publications, to deepen my understanding of the mining industry and stay informed about emerging trends. While I have not yet had the opportunity to participate in physical conferences, I am deeply committed to broadening my involvement and contributing to the SAIMM community. I look forward to attending in-person events in the future, where I can connect with industry professionals, share insights, and further align my academic growth with real-world industry advancements.

Brief career history:
From 2017 to 2020, I successfully owned and operated a logistics and e-commerce business, honing skills in entrepreneurship and strategic problem-solving. When the pandemic disrupted the business, I pivoted proactively, pursuing new opportunities in the mining sector. In 2021, I was awarded a Mining Learnership with Sibanye Stillwater in the Free State, where I spent two years gaining hands-on underground experience. The company sponsored my academic advancement by sending me to University, where I am currently completing my final year in BEng Tech Mining Engineering.
By the end of 2024, I will have accumulated half a decade of multifaceted mining experience, blending practical fieldwork with advanced theoretical training, a milestone that underscores my perseverance and passion for the industry.
Prior to mining, I worked as a Brand Activation Assistant at a leading soft-drink manufacturer (producing Pepsi and Reebost Energy), collaborating closely with managers to design promotions and enhance brand visibility. This experience sharpened my ability to engage audiences and drive strategic campaigns. skills I now apply to technical communication and stakeholder engagement within mining industry.
