What contribution do you see yourself making to the Young Professionals Council and the SAIMM?
As a young person straight from tertiary education, I believe my enthusiasm and energy can bring fresh ideas and motivation to the Young Professionals Council (YPC) and SAIMM. From a young age, I've been interested in leadership roles to help improve the conditions for others. As a future mining engineer, I want to contribute to the industry’s growth, and I see SAIMM as a great way to do that.
Furthermore, I aim to encourage people in the mining industry to balance various factors of mining. As mining isn’t just about technical skills but also about managing people and their behaviours. I will use my already existing network of my peers to promote YPC. By promoting YPC among young professionals, I hope to grow membership and share knowledge, which will benefit both YPC and SAIMM.

Brief career history:
I completed my BSc in Mining Engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2024. Throughout my academic journey, I obtained several certifications to enhance my skills, including Certificates of Competency in Basic Fire Training (June 2024 - June 2026) and First Aid Level 1 (June 2024 - June 2027). I also earned MQA Competent A and B (April 2025), as well as a Blasting Assistant certification (April 2025).
From November 2023 to February 2024, I gained practical experience during a vacation work placement at Sibanye Stillwater, where I was exposed to mining operations and contributed to problem-solving projects. After graduating, I joined Impala Platinum’s Rustenburg Operations as a Mining engineer in Training.
Additionally, in May 2023, I served as a Tutor at the University of the Witwatersrand, supporting students in Mine Transportation, Automation, and Robotics. These experiences have helped me develop strong leadership and technical skills, which I am eager to leverage in the mining industry.
