What contribution do you see yourself making to the Young Professionals Council and the SAIMM?
As an industrial engineer who has found a meaningful path in the mining industry, I bring a fresh and interdisciplinary perspective that challenges traditional boundaries. I aim to be a relatable example for other young professionals—especially those from non-traditional mining or metallurgy backgrounds—who are seeking to carve out their own space in the industry. I’m passionate about outreach and mentorship, and I would love to contribute to initiatives that support and guide young professionals as they navigate their career journeys, build confidence, and find a sense of belonging within the SAIMM community.

Interaction/activities that you currently participate in within the SAIMM (if applicable):
I am currently serving on the SAIMM Young Professionals Council, where I’ve been actively involved in championing both the Membership and Marketing portfolios—driving engagement, visibility, and value for young professionals in the industry. I’ve also supported the SAIMM by occasionally chairing webinars and co-hosting episodes of The Crucibles, the SAIMM podcast aimed at spotlighting industry insights, young talent, and evolving conversations within the mining and metallurgy spaces.

Qualifications:
BSc. Industrial Engineering (Hons)

Brief career history:
I completed my undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2019. During my final year, I began my professional journey with an internship at Vuuma Collaborations, which led to a full-time role with the team following graduation.

Since then, I’ve been actively developing and applying my skills in business improvement, with a strong focus on the implementation of the Operating Model, Operations System Capability, and tools that support sustainable operational performance. I have led the design and implementation of Value Driver Trees, facilitated training through our SimX Experiential Game, and supported simulation modelling projects that reflect complex mining operations.

Over the past few years, I’ve taken the lead on several productivity improvement projects—conducting baseline performance analyses, identifying operational constraints, and facilitating cross-functional solutioning sessions. One of my most significant roles has been leading a cost optimisation project, where I used deep-dive analytics to uncover opportunities in asset utilisation, spend trends, and cost centre breakdowns—ultimately delivering actionable insights to improve efficiency and drive value.

In addition to my technical and project-based work, I am continuously building my leadership capability. I have completed the Oxford Executive Leadership Programme, which strengthened my ability to think strategically, lead adaptively, and navigate complex organisational environments.

I currently serve as an office bearer on the SAIMM Young Professionals Council, where I champion the Membership and Marketing portfolios and co-host The Crucibles podcast. I am also part of the YPC Mentorship Programme, where I continue to grow through guided support and reflection.
